As a child growing up in Nova Scotia, something inside me longed to be with the Mi’kmaq Peoples, the Indigenous Peoples of the province. One point I had a friend whose father was in Mi’kmaq. Mother and father were separated, so I never met her father, but I wanted to know him and to know the Mi’kmaq  Peoples. The feeling was that something vital was missing in my life 

This longing that never fully resolved until I met the Indigenous peoples of Ontario. I felt a strong impression of connection while attending their events. I very much respected their native beliefs, and their loving respect for animals and the Earth. About 10 years ago I decided to see if that feeling for Indigenous Peoples was actually in my blood. So I started a family project of exploring our ancestry and having a DNA test. DNA proved that we had 2% DNA that was Indigenous. I also discovered that just as my father had told me that our family was from France, near Normandy.  Our family came to Canada in 1606. I have no proof of this but most certainly our ancestors were in touch with the Indigenous peoples. One of my first cousins informed me that our great grandmother was most likely part Indigenous. she had native women in her home often. It’s kinship I feel for the Indigenous Peoples makes my sense of injustice well up, for all that they have been subjected to since we invaded their lands. 

There’s so much abuse, degradation and theft that the Indigenous Peoples have been dealing with from the European settlers. This knowledge makes me despairing and angry. 

For decades my dream has been to offer my work to groups of native peoples in order to help them regain their health, and to release with them the emotions from the abuse and  mistreatment and trauma that these people have been subjected to by ego centred profit driven individuals and organizations that STILL goes on today. 

I feel that Creator God Jehovah is guiding me in this direction at a rate that I can sustain. Sometimes this maddeningly slow. But I believe that if it’s meant to happen our God can move the blocks and the 

barriers thrown off by the evil ones in this world to make this dream of joining together in healing a reality.
