Land Acknowledgement
I acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional, unceded territories of Indigenous Peoples. I honour the Mi’kmaq as the original caretakers of the lands now known as Nova Scotia, and I acknowledge the many Nations across Turtle Island who continue to live on and care for their lands today.
I offer this acknowledgement with humility and respect, recognizing that land acknowledgements are not a substitute for action. I commit to listening, learning, and acting in ways that support Indigenous sovereignty, dignity, and self-determination.
I commit to learning from Indigenous voices, following community leadership, and offering my work only where it is welcomed and guided by the people it is meant to support.

Growing up in Nova Scotia, I felt a deep pull toward the Mi’kmaq Peoples, the Indigenous Peoples of that land. As a child, I sensed that something important was missing in my life. One of my close friends had a Mi’kmaq father, her parents were separated and I never met him. Still, my curiosity and respect for Mi’kmaq Peoples grew from that early connection. That sense of longing stayed with me into adulthood. Years later, when I met Indigenous Peoples in Ontario and attended community events, I felt a strong sense of connection and belonging in those spaces—not as someone who belonged to the cultures, but as someone who felt deeply moved by the strength of community, the spiritual grounding, and the care shown for the Earth and for all living beings. These experiences shaped how I see the world and how I understand respect, responsibility, and relationship.
Over time, I became curious about my own family history. Through family research and DNA testing, I learned that my ancestry is largely French, with roots near Normandy, and that my family came to what is now Canada in 1606. While I lack of solid proof of Indigenous ancestry, save for the DNA testing, I understand that my ancestors lived on and benefited from Indigenous lands and relationships. A cousin shared family stories that suggest there may have been close relationships between our family and Indigenous women in past generations. Whether or not those stories point to ancestry, they reminded me of how deeply intertwined settler and Indigenous histories are—and how often those histories involved imbalance, harm, and loss.
Learning more about the realities Indigenous Peoples have faced since colonization—the land theft, violence, forced assimilation, and ongoing injustices—has filled me with grief and a strong desire to assist. The impacts of these harms did not end in the past; they continue today in systems that too often prioritize profit and power over people, land, and life. I hold this awareness with humility, knowing that it is not my place to speak over Indigenous voices, but to listen, learn, and stand in solidarity.
For many years, I have felt called to offer my healing work in service to Indigenous communities—only where invited, and only in ways that are respectful, community-led, and culturally safe. My intention is not to “fix” anyone, but to walk alongside people who may wish to explore gentle, supportive practices for emotional release and healing from trauma, abuse, and mistreatment. I believe deeply in the strength, wisdom, and resilience that already live within Indigenous communities. Any healing work must honour that strength and be guided by the people it is meant to support.
This path unfolds slowly, at a pace I can sustain. At times, that slowness is hard. But I trust that meaningful connections grow in their own time, when the conditions are right. I hold faith that barriers can be softened when intentions are grounded in respect, consent, and care for one another.
