The Wisdom of The Jehovah's Witnesses

My Journey of Discovery: The Wisdom of Jehovah’s Witnesses

A Personal Journey Into Bible Study, Faith, and Personal Service

My first truly meaningful Bible study began in Costa Rica in 2020, during the COVID pandemic. When gatherings were finally permitted, I joined a wonderful group of about sixteen women who met weekly at a local evangelical church. I loved the fellowship, the discussions, and the opportunity to learn more deeply about the Bible. Yet, at times, I found that there was the same disconnect from truth that I experienced in my early Christian years.

When I later returned to Canada, I tried to find a similar Bible study, but I was unable to find one! So I prayed. I asked God to guide me to a Bible study that would truly meet my needs and enrich my life.

Some time later, I met a woman at the gym. We became friends, having lunches together and getting to know one another. Eventually, she invited me to consider being her roommate in Mexico. It was then that she shared she was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She also explained that certain standards of behavior were expected if I wished to socialize with her Witness friends.

I was intrigued. I had long admired the peaceful imagery in Jehovah’s Witness publications—the lamb lying down with the lion, a world at peace. And after all, I had been praying to learn more about the Bible. She invited me to attend a meeting at a Kingdom Hall, explaining that the public talk portion was open to everyone.

The very first public talk I heard addressed the idea of eternal hellfire. The speaker carefully used scripture to explain why a loving Father would never condemn His children to endless torment. Hearing this expressed so clearly and biblically filled me with relief and joy. It confirmed something I had felt in my heart all my life: that God is loving, just, and honors free will.

The second part of the meeting was a study of The Watchtower, a thoughtfully organized and deeply scriptural publication. One person acted as a conductor, and members of the congregation were invited to comment on the lesson. There was no paid pastor, no emotional pressure—just focused study, guided by the Bible, with sincere participation from those present. I was astonished and deeply impressed. I began attending meetings regularly.

Soon after, I accepted an offer for a free personal Bible study. I was blessed to study with a warm and faithful Jehovah’s Witness couple and their daughter. Over time, they became close friends, confidants, and guides as I navigated the often rocky journey of Christian truth-seeking.

As the months passed, I came to see how much has been lost in the world as people turned away from our Creator, Jehovah. I also learned more about the integrity of Jehovah’s Witnesses—their history of persecution during the world wars, their refusal to participate in violence, their political neutrality, and their reliance entirely on voluntary donations. No collection plates are passed. No one is paid. All publications, meetings, and educational materials are produced through volunteer service and donated funds.

Jehovah’s Witnesses go door to door to offer free Bible studies, motivated by love and a desire to help others learn about God’s Kingdom. Seeing this outreach softened my heart. I realized these are ordinary people with ordinary lives, yet they devote extraordinary time and effort to worship, study, and helping others draw closer to God.

As I grew closer to members of the congregation, I also became aware of their struggles with illness and aging. I saw sincere people striving to do Jehovah’s will while carrying physical burdens. Having spent decades working as a therapist using Neuromodulation and Natural Control Method (NCM), I understood this struggle well. Over time, I had grown discouraged by a healthcare system that often manages illness rather than truly restores well-being.

Yet within this congregation, I felt something change. I realized I had finally found a group of people I genuinely wanted to help. I felt guided by Jehovah to offer my skills—not for payment, recognition, or advancement, but as an act of gratitude and service.

I believe it is part of Jehovah’s purpose for me to offer my healthcare knowledge freely to committed Jehovah’s Witnesses, to help strengthen their health and well-being so they may continue serving Him as fully as possible. This offering is my way of honoring their own selfless volunteer service to humankind.

 Conclusion

Today, I continue this journey with humility and deep gratitude. I do not claim to have all the answers, but I am thankful to have been guided toward a community centered on the Scriptures, love, and self-sacrificing service. My prayer remains simple: to keep learning, to keep serving, and to use whatever abilities I have been given in a way that honors Jehovah and benefits others. As the Scriptures remind us, “Each one will carry his own load,” and I strive to carry mine faithfully and with joy. (Galatians 6:5)

Faith, I have learned, is not something we arrive at all at once, but something we walk into—step by step—through prayer, study, fellowship, and love. Jehovah assures us that “he is not far off from each one of us,” and that “he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him.” (Acts 17:27; Hebrews 11:6) Trusting in these promises offers a quiet peace and a steady hope that shapes both belief and action.

I share this experience not to persuade, but to bear witness to the gentle ways guidance can appear when we pray sincerely and remain open. For me, that guidance came through prayer, unexpected friendships, and a renewed love for God’s Word. “Trust in Jehovah with all your heart,” the Bible counsels, and I have found that when we do, he helps to make our paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5, 6)

Wherever one may be on their own spiritual journey, I hope my experience encourages patience, reflection, and confidence in the search for truth. In my work in healthcare, I strive to reflect these same principles, serving others with compassion, respect, and integrity, and using the skills I have gained to promote well-being and relief from suffering. When we seek Jehovah with a sincere heart, the guidance we need often comes—not loudly, but gently—shaping how we care for others and reminding us that acts of healing, offered in love, can be a meaningful expression of faith and service.
